Korean Reigncom Enters Portable Gaming Console Market
June 24, 2005
Reigncom, a Korean maker of MP3 players, in the first half of 2006 plans to introduce a 3D portable gaming console, which will have MP3, gaming, and camera functions. The company stated that from an early stage it had been cooperating with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute and the graphics chip maker Nexus on R&D for technology used in 3D gaming consoles, and that this cooperation had eliminated technological and product performance related problems. Reigncom's entrance into the portable gaming console market will mean an attack on the positions of established players such as Sony and Nintendo. Analysts say that Reigncom went looking for new business opportunities because of low-pricing strategies by some of its rivals in the MP3 player market, including Apple and Samsung.
